Salt
- Salt
"Salt is as free as the water suspending it when it'sdissolved, and as immutable as stone when it's dry"
Sallie Tisdale
Rossi’s work centres on the changes occurring on our planet as a result of climate change. Her work evolves around water (H20) - the element that sustains life – or the lack of it: melting icebergs, deserts, gigantic salt flats, toxic mineral deposits, are all but a consequence of the same process: global warming causing the evaporation of water. She ponders what would happen once all the glaciers have melted, and global temperatures continued to rise? As water evaporates and lakes disappear, salt flats - massive evaporative basins that extend for miles – will appear as they already have in other times in the planet’s history.Salt the 'white gold' sought after for centuries, has shaped the course of history, and also played a vital part in religious ritual in many cultures, symbolizing immutable, incorruptible purity. Will this purity be lost if CO2 levels increase and global warming intensifies?
As more and more salt flats emerge, they bear silent witness to climate change. But in these images, the rain-clouds illuminated by the last rays of the sun and the glistening remnants of water on the surface could also be interpreted as a sign of hope. It is not yet too late to change the course of our planet's future, it does, indeed depend on us.

Description
SALT follows Rossi’s ICE series. The artist ponders what would happen after the glaciers have melted, if global temperatures continue to increase? As water evaporates and lakes disappear…. Salt flats - massive evaporative basins that extend for miles – will appear as they already have in other times in the planet’s history.
Salt has played a vital part in religious ritual in many cultures, symbolizing immutable, incorruptible purity, but if CO2 levels increase and global warming intensifies it will eventually cause our demise.
